Within a day or two of bring home your kitten, you should arrange for a checkup with your vet. Your vet may detect some problems you are unaware of. Issues on vaccination and deworming can also be clarified.

Your kitten should have its first vaccination by 9 - 12 weeks old when its natural immunity against diseases from anti bodies present in its mother’s milk begin to wear off from the age of 7 weeks. Keep your kitten indoors until the full vaccination program has been completed. To be on the safe side, only vaccinated family cats that have been screened for feline leukemia and feline immune deficiency virus are allow to be in contact with your kitten.

When your kitten starts to take solid food around the age of 4 weeks, you can start to deworm your kitten every 2 to 3 weeks until the age of 3 moths old, and then once a month until it is 6 months old. After that, you can deworm your cat once a year or twice a year if it is an outdoor cat.

Grooming your kitten at an early age helps prepare your kitten to get used to being handled in very sensitive areas such as the paws, underparts and bottom. Besides that, it also helps to build trust and affection between you and your kitten.

Unless you are going to breed your cat, consult your vet on neutering of your kitten before it reach maturity.
